I could just about copy and paste my review for book 2, The One You Can't Forget, and it would be accurate, but I'll try not to do that. The One You Fight For is book three in The Ones Who Got Away series but it can be read as a standalone. I highly recommend reading at least book one though, just so you have all of the back ground on the four women who became friends due to a horrible tragedy at their high school prom. Each of them will get their own story.
I can't say enough good things about this series and this book. It's not an erotic romance like Roni Loren's Loving on the Edge series but it has plenty of heat. It also has characters that seem very real to me.
All of the four women who because friends as a result of the tragic school shooting lost something that day but Taryn also lost her sister. That loss compelled her to choose a different path than the one she thought she would follow before the shootings. She has dedicated her adult life to researching the reason these horrible acts get committed and to developing a program for schools that can help identify children with problems so they can get help before they do something awful.
We already know from the book's blurb that Taryn's love interest will be Shaw, the brother of the shooter, but getting to know the man behind the infamous name puts a new spin on things and helps us to realize that the survivors and people who died on that horrible day weren't the only victims.
This story seemed so authentic and real to me. Ms. Loren must have done a boat load of research for this story for it to come out and feel this way to this reader. Taryn is such a strong character that she seems able to cope with almost anything but when she has to make a very painful choice her strength may not be enough to help her hold everything together.
Like the other books, this story ripped me up and then put me back together again. Roni Loren is a master story teller who knows how to write moving stories that engage all of your emotions. I was totally invested in the outcome for these characters and I desperately needed them to find peace (especially Shaw) and their HEA.
There is simply no way for me to do justice to this book with anything that I'd write. I can't wait for the next book to come out but I will also be sad because it will be the last one for this series.

The One You Fight For The Ones Who Got Away Roni Loren 9781492651468 Books Reviews
It took me a full day to get over the tears this brought -- total ugly cry for me. If you have read the first two books in "The Ones Who Got Away" series, you already know what the main subject matter of the story is. A mass school shooting. These stories takes us through some of the survivors and how their lives have gone since the shooting, how they deal, or how they don't deal. There are always many victims of these kinds of attacks, and Taryn Landry has made it her mission to start protecting schools at what she finds to be the source of why these people turn to this kind of violence. Balancing that mission with having a life of her own is more difficult than most. Shaw Miller is another victim of the shooting but not the way we think, and his pain and guilt truly gutted me. Is it possible for people to finally see him as a victim as well? Or are he and Taryn destined to live with the pain and guilt they feel, never having any kind of happiness of their own. Truly moving story!

When I started "The Ones Who Got Away" series, Roni Loren was a new-to-me author and I was so happy to have found her. That feeling has continued through the second book and now into the third.
Tragedy struck Long Acre over a decade ago and while Taryn Landry survived when gunmen opened fire during the prom, her sister Nia, and many others did not. Following the shooting, Taryn made the decision to dedicate her life to making sure that things like this never happen again. Taryn became a psychology professor and along with making the decision to follow this passion, she also unknowingly put every other part of her life on hold, including her love life.
Shaw Miller was a guy who had everything going for him. He was training for the Olympics in hopes of making the team was the unthinkable happened - his brother opened fire at a high school prom. His brothers actions not only ended his hopes of representing his country, but really his life as he knew it was over. Shaw was in many ways guilty by association. Because they were brothers, people automatically thought Shaw was going to do something as horrible as his brother had. Because of this, Shaw changed his name and his looks and did everything he could to distance himself from who he used to be.
When Taryn and Shaw meet at a karaoke bar, it's obvious the attraction is there, but they part ways that night expecting never to see one another again. The universe sees it differently and they are pulled back together again, although neither one has any idea of the part the other played in the Long Acre Shooting. When everything is revealed will these two be able to deal with it and move on together or will it tear them apart?
Roni Loren had a very difficult job with the topics in this story and I thought she handled them so carefully and wonderfully. Both Taryn and Shaw harbored a tremendous amount of guilt and they both had very difficult decisions to make when the chips were down. They had both been through so much and the way that Roni Loren went about each of them working through their own issues was so well done.
This is one of those books that is going to stay with me for some time. I didn't want to put the book down because I was so anxious to see how it all played out. This was a wonderful addition to this already fantastic series!
